Donation of Medical Equipment to Ministry of Health & Wellness

Belize City, 19 March, 2025–

The Belize Cancer Society (BCS) has received a significant donation of medical equipment from Dr. Shenin Sachedina, a dedicated advocate for cancer care and medical advancement. This critical equipment was officially handed over to the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) to support cancer treatment and early detection efforts across the country.

The donation includes 5 Zonare Ultrasounds, 5 Medical Exam Tables, 5 Exam Stools, 10 Waiting Room Chairs, 5 Ultrasound Probes, Educational Pamphlets/Books, and other items, which will enhance the capacity of healthcare facilities to provide quality care to cancer patients. The equipment will be deployed to key medical institutions to improve diagnostics, treatment, and patient support services.

During the handover ceremony, representatives from the Belize Cancer Society, MOHW officials, and Dr. Shenin emphasized the importance of collaboration in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

Ms. Marsha Escarpeta, Treasurer of the Belize Cancer Society, delivering remarks on behalf of Mrs. Kim Simplis-Barrow, President of the Belize Cancer Society, stated, “We are incredibly grateful for this generous contribution, which will undoubtedly improve the lives of many Belizeans battling cancer. Access to proper medical equipment is vital in our fight against cancer, and this donation will make a meaningful difference.”

Dr. Shenin expressed a strong commitment to advancing healthcare in Belize, stating, “Early detection and access to quality treatment can save lives. I am honored to contribute to the efforts of the Belize Cancer Society and the Ministry of Health & Wellness in ensuring better healthcare outcomes for patients.”

The director of Public Health on Wellness, Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa, acknowledged the importance of partnerships in improving public health and especially thanked the Belize Cancer Society for their continued work and collaboration in advancing cancer care. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Shenin for this generous donation. This equipment will strengthen our ability to provide essential services to those in need, reinforcing our commitment to improving cancer care in Belize.”

The Ministry of Health & Wellness, in collaboration with the Belize Cancer Society, will oversee the distribution and utilization of the donated equipment to maximize its impact on patient care and public health initiatives.
